Blogging is surreal!

I met a girl at a wedding this weekend. She looked at me like she knew me and then walked away. I had a chance to talk with her at the reception and she told me that she reads my blog everyday and she didn't expect to see me there...I startled her. It's a little weird that I'm so out there with my life and thoughts AND total strangers read it and know me! But, it's also very cool to be a part of this blogging community! I wouldn't change it for anything! She reads for photography tips and later that night I told her she should write in and ask me all her questions cause I'm happy to answer them...she's probably reading this now and smiling! I love blogging for that reason! I don't know most of the people who reads but, I love that you're learning from this site and that you enjoy returning to read more. Did you know that I get over 8000 clicks a month? It blows my mind! And I'm incredibly honored by it!

So, having said that, i have a question that was emailed in a couple of weeks ago that I haven't had time to get to but...now I do!

Hi Noemi!

You have been SO helpful to me in my venture towards this dream of photography and I know you love to encourage us up and comers on your blog with great tips and tricks. I was wondering if you might enlighten me/us on just how you got into this, how did you build your clientel and how did you market yourself? What are some things, those of us can do that are trying to get our business going? Currently I have a blog and have gotten some word of mouth business but I know I need to not just "sit back and hope it happens". So any advice would be so appreciated!

Thanks, you are a blessing!

Here's my advice:

-Build your portfolio(that means lots of free shoots! Not only does it improve your skills cause you will learn new things at every event...you will bless people with memories and they will get the word out for you)

-Put together a flier and give $75 Christmas shoots for your friends and family. Capture the leaves and they will love you forever! Fall pictures are so much nicer then Christmas!

-Start blogging (have a reason for people to come to your site and keep coming to your site and sending other people they know to your site)

-Join a group (I'm involved with Pictage members group and another photography group called "chicks that click" and we refer to each other)

-Offer to assist for free. Find a photographer you love/admire and offer to assist...then you get the benefit of having someone else pose your subject while you get to shoot and build your portfolio.

-Advertising works of course but, that might be a little further down the line.

Hopefully this helps you. Keep those questions coming.
