Wedding

Liz and Jacob's Wedding Photography

I flew out to Baltimore a couple of weeks ago to capture a wedding in Virginia. It was a lovely 70 degrees the weekend I was there and I soaked up the sun. I loved visiting the east coast...secretly I just wanted to blast the Hamilton sound track every car ride :) We even drove past a couple of historic landmarks...I have to go back with my kids!!!

The wedding was stunning. Outdoor weddings are risky, but when they work, they are magical! This one had sun and clouds until the reception started and then in poured while we were cozy inside eating and dancing. The couple was a dream to work with and there was tons of kids in the wedding party so that is always a bonus for me.

Thank you Liz and Jacob for hosting me and asking me to capture this amazing day of memories.

Here are a few of my favorites from the wedding day...enjoy!

Molly and Mike's Wedding Photography - Hudson, WI

Fall is an incredible time of year in the midwest! We love our pumpkin everything, changing fall leaves and cool night air. For a wedding and portrait photographer it's an especially amazing season...The light, the colors and the outdoor events! Even after 15 years of capturing wedding...this is still my favorite part! I love it when families come together and celebrate love. I love it when two people choose each other. I love it when I get to be there to capture it all. Here's some of my favorites from their amazing day!

Christie and Adam's Wedding Photography (Minneapolis, MN)

I love getting to know my couples. They are each so unique. This is a couple that I love to laugh with. The kind of couple that I would love to sit around the table talking, eating good food, and sharing heart stuff. They are good people. The kind that move from clients to being friends. I kinda love it when that happens. They wedding was so beautiful. So, naturally, that makes my job as the wedding photographer very easy.

Thank you Christie and Adam for inviting me to be a part of this incredible wedding!

Wedding Photography is very near and dear to my heart. Nothing makes me smile like a wedding with friends who are like family to me. And when I get to keep coming back wedding after wedding, it's more like a family reunion. The best part is when I put my cameras down and start to dance! Ya, I do that sometimes. :) Wedding Photography is about telling a story and each one is so different...that's why I love this job! Enjoy this incredible family...

Rachel and Akis - Wedding Photography, Rochester, MN

Getting to capture someone's wedding is a pretty great honor. But...when I'm asked to come back and photograph the same family's second daughter, I can't help but smile. At the end of the night the mom gave me the most amazing compliment. she said, " You came in as our photographer and you're leaving as part of the family." Isn't that beautiful? Kinda amazing when you realize that people let you into their families when they have you as their photographer. I don't take it for granted. This beautiful family...there were so many beautiful moments and it was really hard to narrow the photos down to a few of my favorites to show you as a sneak preview. But, I hope you enjoy these! Two wonderful families coming together as one!

I never tire of meeting new families and couples about to begin the most amazing adventure...marriage is beautiful when cherished! I wish the best for Rachel and Akis!

Megan and Joe Wedding Photography (Minneapolis, MN)

I love weddings. Even after months of capturing weddings every weekend...I still love weddings. I truly love being a wedding photographer. It's my privilege to be with these couples on their big day. Megan and Joe were such an easy couple to capture. The fall wedding weather was perfect! I caught myself several times that day taking deep breaths and marveling at the beauty all around us. I loved shooting at Loring Pasta bar and Varsity Theatre.

Sometimes I meet a bride and we just click. I get to hear so many stories of love and each story touches my heart in a unique way. Pam and Joe are one of those couples. They chose a beautiful Minnesota Fall Wedding date AND they chose the Russian Art Museum for their beautiful venue! It was picture perfect. I'm so thankful I got to be a part of their amazing day!

Wedding Workshop Photography - Vintage bride and groom.

We had an amazing night at the wedding workshop last weekend. We had so much fun capturing two couples. Our first couple was a vintage bride and groom and the weather, light, and location were perfect! I love teaching photography and inspiring new photographers to grown in their gifting and passion...teaching wedding workshops let's me focus on something I love to capture! Travis and Laura's Wedding Photography - Mill City Museum, Minneapolis, MN

I love joining a party. I got to know the bride and groom from our fun engagement shoot and her family made this wedding dear to my heart! I have shot many weddings at the Mill City Museum and it's one of my favorite venues in the Twin Cities. There are so many beautiful options for photography along the river and with skyline as a background is perfection! Here's some of my favorite moments from their wedding day:

Suzelle and Jonathan - Wedding Photography

Remember the rain we had last weekend? Can you imagine waking up on the day of your wedding and seeing it pour outside knowing you've planned an outdoor reception? That's what happened to Suzelle and Jonathan. I had met them at our their engagement shoot and immediately fell in love with them, their story, their sweet sentiment...they are such romantics! I was so looking forward to seeing them again at their wedding. I wanted everything to perfect. I didn't want the rain to ruin anything. One of the benefits of being a wedding photographer for 14 years is that I've shot in every kind of weather and I know I can get beautiful pictures no matter what. Sometimes the bride and groom need a little convincing when the weather is at it's worst. But, Minnesota weather is unpredictable and by the evening the sun was out and the party was raging! It was perfect and I'm so thankful I had a part in their beautiful day.

Enjoy this sneak peak of their wedding photos.

Martha and Nathaniel's Wedding Photography - St. Olaf, Northfield, Minnesota

I love the St. Olaf grounds and buildings. Northfield is such a beautiful little town with tons of charm. I jump at the chance of shooting weddings there. The Grand is an adorable old theatre converted event center for such occasions like this! It was a gorgeous day for Martha and Nathaniel's wedding and I'm so thankful I got to be a part of it. Here's some of my favorite moments of the day:

You may think that after 14 years of shooting weddings it gets old, but you're wrong. I love being a wedding photographer. So...I'm going to break up the posts...consider this PART 1! Congrats to an amazing couple! More to come...

It's my birthday...I can write whatever I want to!

Wedding and Portrait PhotographyI was thinking about the interviews I've seen on E-news (mainly Jennifer Lawrence...I love her!) and how they ask pointed questions to get thoughtful answers. That's what we're going to do for today's post. What are your deep thoughts for this year?

"Whenever anyone asked my Grandma how old she was, her answer was always the same, "39 and holding." (for that reason we never really knew her exact age and she always acted younger anyway.) But, it's made me think about her a lot in the weeks leading up to my birthday, she must have loved this age to hold onto it for so many years. I think there's something special about getting all I can out of the 30's...I plan to be more brave this year and I intend to look for beauty and hold onto hope."

What are you doing differently with photography business?

"This is my second year spending my winter months ("off season") mentoring photographers and I'm realizing how much I love it. I've been teaching photography workshops for years and will continue to do that, but there's nothing like walking with someone for 6 months and seeing them achieve goals they never thought possible!" (Find out more)

"I'm not giving up my day job! I love wedding photography and portrait photography is a close second. I'm going to be doing this for a long time!"

Why are you going back to school?

"I never got my degree and for a long time I didn't think I needed it, but as my youngest will be going to kindergarten in the fall, I started to dream (again) about what I want to be when I grow up. I decided that I love photography too much to give it up, but I love investing in people as well. So, I'm getting my generals at Normandale and probably finishing my degree at University of Minnesota so that I can grow my photography business and start a new life coaching business. Of course, all this is subject to change, but I'm enjoying the ride. Going back to school has been amazingly exciting and totally scary! In each class I'm learning not only about the subject, but about myself...it's been really good. (sounds a little mid-life-crisis-y? maybe. but, I'm okay with that.)"

What does "almost 40" look like for you?

"I have grey hairs. I don't mind the change in color but no one told grey hairs are crazy, coarse, stick straight up and look ridiculous...just cause for pulling them out!"

"I feel a little older (winded after walking up stairs :) but, I also feel a little wiser. I like the trade off."

"And lastly, I would sum it up in one word...quieter. It's hard to explain. I'm still me with all my passion, extroverted-ness, and zeal, but I'm quieter on the inside. More content to just be. Happy in my skin. Does that make sense?"

Anything you want to add?

"Being brave has its risks, but life is worth living.

Life is messy.

I'm messy. I'm okay with that.

I want to learn from my first 38 years and keep learning. I want for you too!"

March 5, 1976 I was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. (long story) But, I googled what was happening that day and here's what I found!
